1 Million Cups: Caffeinating an Entrepreneurial Nation is a program organized by the Kauffman Foundation and hosted by Kean University and Barnes & Noble Bookstores to accelerate early-stage start-ups.  1 Million Cups is a free, nationwide program designed to support, engage and connect entrepreneurs.  1 Million Cups hosts two 6-minute presentations, followed by 20 minutes of Questions & Answers, by local entrepreneurs every Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. in the Barnes & Noble bookstore located inside Kean University’s Green Lane Academic Building at 1040 Morris Ave. in Union, N.J.  Local entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, angel investors, student entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs, and all interested parties are welcome to participate, enjoy free coffee, and support early stage start-up businesses.

Local entrepreneurs present their business concept and typically have an “Ask”.  This “Ask” describes a challenge that they are facing and asks for ideas of possible solutions from the audience.  Connections are made, potential solutions arrived at, and further interactions initiated at these 1 Million Cups meetings.

Benefits for the presenters include the free, and often clever, advice from a knowledgeable and supportive audience, connecting with potential customers and partners, finding investors and funding sources, receiving professional advice, making important connections, and having the opportunity for continued consultations.  The video made of the presentation is available to the presenter and is posted on the 1 Million Cups Union website for international access.  A standing invitation to return and provide an update to an interested audience is always available.  And let’s not forget the free coffee and breakfast snacks!
