Cherry Hill, NJ (Tuesday, June 2, 2020) – VictimsVoice, a web-based tool designed to help domestic violence victims receive admissible court cases through proper documentation, is announcing its newest alliance with the Academy of Forensic Nursing (AFN)
AFN is a newly-established organization consisting of advanced nursing scholars and practitioners dedicated to the development of forensic nursing. While representing 500 collective years of nursing and 240 years in forensic nursing, the organization states that its intended mission is linking research to practice through education and service to those affected by and responding to trauma.
According to Sheri Kurdakul, CEO of VictimsVoice, forensic nurses are crucial figures in helping assist a company such as her own. “These nurses are trained in identifying injuries that have potentially resulted from abuse and in properly documenting evidence while treating victims with professionalism and non-judgmental respect,” said Kurdakul. “When domestic violence victims need to see a doctor due to abuse, they often go under pretenses such as ‘I slipped in the bathtub’ or ‘I tripped down the stairs.’ Having medical records that clearly describe the extent of injuries is vital if the victim were to need them later for a protective order or in a criminal investigation.”
AFN’s past president, Diana Faugno, stated “The Academy of Forensic Nursing is very excited to be partnering with VictimsVoice. It is important for forensic nurses to stay up-to-date in options and tools that they can use to help educate patients. VictimsVoice is an example of technology that has that potential.”
Kurdakul is excited to align VictimsVoice with AFN, an organization that is open-minded to new and innovative ways to approach and help victims during traumatic times in their lives. “If this Coronavirus pandemic has taught us one thing, it’s that the status quo won’t work anymore and that innovation and strategic alliances are the way forward to serving our complementary missions. We are proud to be both a member and a partner of AFN.”
